Develop Sharia Audit guidelines and quality assurance/review programs to ensure a consistent and effective application of controls and ensure that activities do not contravene Sharia requirements.
Prepare the annual Sharia audit plan, which must be approved by the BAC in recommendation of ISSC, while upholding the best practices in this process (e.g. Risk based Sharia Audit).
Lead and oversee Sharia Audit reviews across the Islamic business and related support functions.
Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of controls environment, systems, processes and procedures, highlighting areas of concern.
Plan and organize reviews and agree terms of reference to ensure that the reviews are carried out effectively, within the timescales allocated, keeping senior management informed of progress and findings.
Present Audit reports to the Internal Sharia Supervisory Committee (ISSC), the Senior Management and the Board Audit Committee on the audit findings raised in reviews, together with corrective action plans.
Oversee the finalized action plans taken so that outstanding issues identified during reviews are followed up and resolved to ensure that Sharia risks are effectively managed.
Lead special audits or investigations and present results to Senior Management on ad-hoc basis.
Assist the Internal Audit department in tasks that increases the integration to achieve optimum efficiencies.
Assist the Chief Audit Executive’s initiatives when required.
Build, manage and maintain good working relationship with all key parties including the Internal Sharia Supervisory Committee (ISSC), the Sharia team and Central Bank’s HAS.
Act as a strategic advisor to the business who works with senior management to identify as well as anticipate risk and operating requirements of the business.
Frequent attendance at, and presentation to, the ISSC.
Attendance at, and presentation to, Board Audit Committee for sharia related observations.
Manage projects or work in respect of special situations, ensuring that where appropriate they are delivered on time and within budget.
Recommend and manage changes to policies, systems, processes and working practices in order to achieve operational improvements.
Lead, manage, motivate, develop and appraise staff so that their individual and collective performance is of the required standard and meets the current and future needs.
10+ years of Internal Audit experience in a regional financial institution.
10+ years’ experience in the field of Sharia Audit.
Bachelor's degree in Islamic Sharia, or relevant specializations.
Have a professional certificate in Sharia and Islamic Banking Audit from (AAOIFI) or (CIBAFI)
Have a professional certificate in auditing issued by an international organization.
